After making our way down to the final floor, we now confront with the leader of the Robot Army. This is Bagura…yes THAT Bagura, making his very first debut here as THE primary antagonist for the franchise and while there would be many other villains in future games, he is the most well known baddie of the series and has also had the most appearances out of all of them. Though, here in this game he’s actually called “Buglear” and in the Mega Bomberman port he was localized to “Bagulaa”…..I’m sure his name is going to stay consistent throughout the rest of his subsequent appearances and in no way cause any amount of name shenanigans at all right? (Oh boy…) Anywho, “Buglear” begins the fight by floating around while being surrounded by 4 miniature laser orbs that will orbit around him for a few seconds before stoping to fire laser beams that shoot in four directions vertically or horizontally. The laser orbs only take about two hits to destroy each. Once the first phase has been stopped, Buglear then brings out a red mechanical dragon which was kept in the door behind him called Dragoon. Dragoon will always stay in the arena, moving left to right while also moving its head and long neck left and right, it never moves up or down. It attacks by breathing out fire and sweeps the arena in front of it which can detonate bombs (it didn’t get to do this move), and fires lasers from it’s claws four times, two of them fire straight and the other two fire diagonally. It takes 6 hit points to defeat. Buglear is still not finished yet as he comes out of the wreckage of Dragoon to reveal his Bomberman form and fights us in a 1 on 1 Bomber duel with the entire planet at stake. Buglear will move around the arena and will stop to levitate into the air and spin four bombs around before getting ready to luanch all of them at once which will land onto a random spot in the arena. The bombs that he throws have max fire power and also seem to have a much shorter detonation timer than regular bombs so you’ll have to react quickly as to where you’ll position yourself on the map to avoid the explosions (or jump over them if you have Purple Louie…). If you get near him he also has an attack where he’ll kick a bomb at you which will explode on contact or if the bomb hits a wall. Despite this being the final phase of the fight he surprisingly has less hit points than any other boss in the game only having about 4 (that’s one hit point less than Saru the first boss in the game!). Thanks to the busted combo of Purple Louie+Remote+Line Bomb+Max bomb/fire, we defeat Buglear and come out victorious. As the comet is being destroyed, right as we escape in our ship, we come to a sudden halt as the Louie volunteers to stay behind to ensure our successful escape even at the cost of sacrificing himself. Maybe Bomberman’s ship couldn’t support two seaters (Idk)? As sad as that is, that could also explain why you can’t carry Louies between stages each time you enter a new world. Should also note that the Louie scene can only be viewed if you beat the final boss without losing it at any point, otherwise Bomberman just escapes the comet with no issues at all.
