He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" or simply "the Bard". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language, and his works continue to be studied and reinterpreted. About Ben Whishaw Ben Whishaw is a multi-award-winning British actor who graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2003. Ben went on to appear in many films and theatrical plays. He received tremendous critical acclaim and a Laurence Olivier nomination (2005) for his portrayal of the title role in a 2004 production of “Hamlet.” It was during this run that “Perfume” producer discovered Ben’s extraordinary talent. Since then, he appeared and starred in films and TV series, such as “I’m Not There,” “Nathan Barley,” “Brideshead Revisited,” “The Tempest,” “Skyfall,” “Cloud Atlas,” “Danish Girl,” “Suffragette,” “Spectre,” “Paddington,” “A Very English Scandal,” “Mary Poppins Returns,” “No Time To Die,” “The Lobster” (screenplay by Efthimis Filippou), “This is Going to Hurt,” and “Women Talking,” among others. Ben has picked up many awards throughout his career: Best Actor at the 2009 Royal Television Society Awards, Best Actor at the International Emmy Awards 2009, Best Actor at the 2012 BAFTA Television Awards, and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “A Very English Scandal,” to name a few. At the same time, Ben kept his love for theater alive at the National Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, the Almeida Theatre, The Bridge Theatre, among others.
