Septoria leaf spot is the most reported leaf spot disease of field-grown hemp in Kentucky. This fungal disease can spread rapidly during periods of rain or high humidity, causing leaf losses of 50 to 90%. Cultural practices that interrupt the fungus’ life cycle can reduce disease severity. Biological control agents have shown suppression in lab and greenhouse studies, but here is no field data available at this time. A companion publication can be found at https://plantpathology.ca.uky.edu/fil.... Hemp, Cannabis sativa with less than 0.3% THC, is susceptible to several leaf diseases that may be confused with Septoria leaf spot. Anthracnose, Bipolaris leaf spot, and Cercospora leaf spot can all look similar. Henry Smith is a plant pathologist and has published research on leaf, flower, and grain diseases of hemp in Kentucky. Dr. Nicole Gauthier is an Extension professor at the University of Kentucky, Department of Plant Pathology. Her focus is disease management for specialty crops, including hemp.
