Telangana Budget 2024: Telangana Govt Unveils State Budget With A Total Outlay Of ₹2.91 Lakh Crore

The Telangana government unveiled its budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, amounting to Rs 2.91 lakh crore. The budget includes a total revenue of Rs 2.21 lakh crore and capital expenditures of Rs 33,487 crore. The state's total estimated revenues are Rs 2,90,814 crore, which includes over Rs 57,000 crore from open market loans. Presenting the budget in the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu highlighted significant allocations to key sectors. "The state government proposed to allocate Rs 72,659 crore to agriculture," he stated. The budget also earmarked Rs 21,292 crore for the Education department and Rs 22,301 crore for Irrigation. Additionally, Rs 29,816 crore is proposed for Panchayath Raj and Rural Development. Mallu pointed out the substantial increase in the state's debt over the past decade. "Telangana’s debt has reached Rs 6.71 lakh crore mark. In the last 10 years, the state government debt has increased by ten times without any development proportionate to that,” he said. Since the Congress government took over, Rs 35,118 crore in debt was raised while loans worth Rs 42,892 crore, including both principal and interest, were repaid, he added.
