Giuseppe Baldassare Sammartini (Milano, 6 gennaio 1695 – Londra, 17 o 23 novembre 1750) è stato un compositore e oboista italiano. Fratello maggiore del più noto Giovanni Battista, fu uno dei migliori oboisti del suo tempo. Nel 1726 Quantz di passaggio a Milano ebbe occasione di ascoltarlo e fu incantato dal suo talento. Nel 1727 partì per Londra, dove trascorse il resto della sua vita oboista del King's Theatre e dove assunse la direzione della musica da camera del Principe di Galles. Le sue composizioni, in un interessante stile tardo barocco con notevoli aperture pre classiche spaziano dalle sonate a 1 o 2 flauti, ai concerti e alle sonate per oboe, concerti grossi ed ouvertures per orchestra. Elder brother of the more famous Giovanni Battista, was one of the best oboe players of his time. In 1726 Quantz passing through Milan had the chance to listen to it and was enchanted by his talent. In 1727 he left Milan for London, where he spent the rest of his life like oboist of the King's Theatre, and then assuming the direction of the chamber music of the Prince of Wales. His compositions, in an interesting late Baroque style, with interesting openings to Pre Classical style vary from sonatas for 1 or 2 flutes, concerts and sonatas for oboe, concertos and overtures for orchestra.
