Expert Interview with Wolfgang Roehl, Manager of Statutory Accident Insurance in Germany

Wolfgang Roehl, Manager of Statutory Accident Insurance (BG RCI) in Germany, reports on the significance of deep mining on mines rescue during the IMRB Conference (October 2013, Canada). For him, this creates new challenges for miners and mines rescue teams. The deeper the mine, the higher the temperatures are underground. These temperatures cause stress and strain the body. In this regard, Roehl sees demands for lighter breathing protection with a reduced breathing resistance. The deeper the mine, the longer the distances are. Therefore, Roehl also believes that refuge chambers are becoming more and more relevant and need to be integrated into the rescue management system of a mine. Wolfgang Roehl has more than 25 years of experiences in mines rescue and his organization, the German Central Mine Rescue Service, will host the next International Mines Rescue Body Conference in Hanover, Germany on September 6th -- 10th, 2015 under the motto "Meet experts & friends in Germany".
