Van Kitchen Build - DYI Fridge & Oven Setup

   • Van build series   In this episode we are sharing our kitchen area build process. For our lower cabinets next to the sliding door, we wanted to put our hob-oven, fridge and food storage space. After some discussion we decided to make drawers for food storage instead of the shelfs. We are quit tall (175 cm and 185 cm) and we wanted to make higher cabinets so we won't have to slouch while cooking or washing dishes. Our worktop will reach 95 cm height. Having this height we will be able to put our gas tank belove our oven. We want to save as much weight as possible, therefore we are not building full frame and only putting wooden beams in the places where are really needed for structure, drawers. Around oven and gas tank we are making sealed area with ventilation hole in the floor. For fridge safety we put two security strips around it and wooden structure to keep fridge in place so it could not move while driving. Then we started searching for fridge and hob, we realized what we want to have option to cook something in the oven. Therefore we started searching for hob-oven solutions and we found Thetford Triplex cooker. Unfortunately we could not find one in Lithuania but accidently found one in the UK. We also found Montpellier 12V fridge in the same shop. It was quit a journey to get those products transported to us, but we made it and now we are installing them to our van. We did a small experiment to check how much energy our fridge will take to work for 24 hours. It only took 3% of the battery capacity, but it's not fully accurate because outside temperature was around 7-8 °C. The real experiment will be, then temperature reach at least 20 °C.
