Let’s face it, unless you live really close to a trail head or bike park, you’re going to have to drive to go mountain biking. And given that over 75% of the population in America, Europe, Latin America and Oceania all live in urban areas, it’s safe to assume that most riders have to get behind the wheel of a vehicle before they get behind bars on their bikes. For some, that’s a hatchback with three downhill bikes squeezed in. For others, it’s a pickup truck with the front wheels all neatly racked up over the tailgate. If you really want to travel in style though, funds permitting, a custom MTB campervan is the way to go. So we headed to the 2025 Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, at the NEC Birmingham, in search of the ultimate mountain bike campervans. We trawled the halls and found three custom builds that will blow you away. Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:30 Danny Hart's van built by Dirty Weekender 5:15 CJL Leisure luxury stealth conversion 11:30 Van Haven with Latitude roof tent Our first find was none other than UCI Mountain Bike DH World Champion Danny Hart’s new van. Given that Danny is a professional downhill mountain bike racer, the van has been designed around the garage and bike storage. But it still has enough space and comfort to accommodate the whole family over a race weekend. We chat with Johnny from Dirty Weekender Van Conversions to get all of the details on Danny’s custom build, medium-wheelbase, Volkswagen Crafter. Next up, and arguably the highlight of the show, was the CJL Leisure stealth-luxury conversion. This van is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. It has a wetroom in the back so you won’t smell your stinky kit when driving between spots, and with a modular rail system in the garage you can easily accommodate up to six bikes. Built on a low-roof MAN TGE 3.18, Cye Hayes from CJL Leisure assured us that you’ll have more than enough power to charge all of your e-bikes while making a brew with the 12v 460Ah battery and 3000 watt inverter. This van only sleeps two people, but it also has a modular seating system so all six riders can travel in comfort. The fist two van are pretty big, so if you're looking for more of a daily driver, but still want to be able to sleep in the van and transport all of your bikes and kids, Jordan from Van Haven and Charlie at Latitude Tents have a great solution. Built on a Volkswagen T6.1, this van has a double bed inside, with a Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and plenty of storage in the boot. It also has a hard-top, pop-up roof tent that sleeps two and can support up to 80kg of bikes when closed. So easily enough capacity for three full-power e-bikes. And probably the best thing about this modular setup, is that you don’t need to cut a massive hole in your brand new VW van to fit a pop-up roof. So that wraps up our visit to the 2025 Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show. We saw three very different styles of van, all designed with riding in mind and all of them were super cool. And while it’s incredibly hard to pick a favourite, we'd love to know which van you’d choose if money was no object.
