An AF-TERG event at COP30 on 19 November 2025 at the Evidence for Climate Action pavilion. While international efforts to implement ambitious climate action are underway, understanding the impact of adaptation investments is not just a good thing to have - it is an essential risk-mitigation strategy for global climate finance. However, the evidence on the effectiveness and sustainability of these investments is still scarce. As more and more attention is focused on the improvement of the understanding of adaptation actions, the session showcases the ongoing efforts of the Adaptation Fund Technical Evaluation Reference Group (AF-TERG) on ex post evaluation, and how this can inform the work of the Adaptation Fund and adaptation finance in general. Such rarely undertaken assessments are conducted three to five years after the project closure to examine the continuation and permanence of adaptation benefits. It will further provide evidence-based lessons on how adaptation results develop over time and whether they continue to support local climate resilience long after project financing concludes. This session offers a critical lens through which financers and implementers can gain a deeper understanding of the impact of adaptation projects and provide valuable learnings on pathways to genuine, sustained resilience for the communities these interventions are designed to protect. Speakers: Debbie Menezes, AF-TERG Chair; Jens Sedemund, Director Environment, OECD; Richard Choularton, Director, Climate and Resilience Service, WFP; Sven Harten, Deputy Director, DEVal
