The Packa....http://www.thepacka.com How does the Packa do it? The Packa combines the benefits of a rain jacket/pack cover and poncho and eliminates the drawbacks of each. The Packa is placed on the pack as a pack-cover at first and the jacket section is donned when needed without removing your pack. Huge pit vents, pocket, and dual separating front zipper all function properly and efficiently because they are not under your backpack's shoulder straps, sternum strap and waist belt. The Packa is worn over your backpack rather than under it. This creates the airspace needed for proper ventilation. Once there is airspace, then the large ventilation zips are able to successfully make the exchange of heated and cool air. Breathable fabrics are able to operate as well. Sizing Info The nylon Packas (33 Denier Sil/Pu coated nylon and 20 Denier Sil/Pu coated nylon) are available in five sizes: Small/Medium/Large and MediumX/LargeX. The 33d Packas are $122.50 + $7.50 shipping. The 20d Packas are $142.50 + $7.50 shipping. Unless you are a very large person, sizing for the Packa really only depends on your height and packsize. The Packa is made very large in the jacket part to aid in air circulation. The small is best for people 5'7 and below. Medium for 5'8 to 6'. Large for above 6'. Backpacks with a volume of 4000ci or 65 liters work best with the small, medium, or large Packa. Above 4000ci or 65 liters require the "x" size. The Medium size is my former “one size fits all” size. I tried to hit the middle of the road with the Medium to accomodate “most” long distance hikers regarding body size and pack size. Draw strings on the bottom hem, sleeves, and hood allow hikers to cinch the Packa down and adjust the fit. The sleeve length from hood seam to the end of the sleeve is 30 inches for the Small, 32 inches for the Medium and 34 inches for the Large. The length of the jacket from bottom of the hood along the front zipper to the bottom of the jacket is 34 inches the Small, 36 inches for the Medium and 38 inches for the Large. The girth of the jacket along the drawstring at the bottom hem of the jacket 56 inches the Small, 60 inches for the Medium and 64 inches for the Large. The Small/Medium/Large Packas have the same packcover size at around 4000 ci or 65 liters. The packcover dimensions are roughly about 9 inches deep by 12 inches wide by 29 inches tall. The packcover also has 3 inch pleats on both sides at both the top and bottom increasing the volume beyond simply 9 x 12 x 29. The MediumX and LargeX sizes have the same jacket size as the regular Medium and Large Packa, but have slightly larger packcovers– up to about 5000 ci or 80 liters. Size Small is not available with the “X” size packcover. The packcover dimensions for the “X” size Packas are about 11 inches deep by 12 inches wide by 32 inches tall. The “X” size packcovers also have the 3 inch pleats that increase volume. The eVent Packas are only available in the Small, Medium, and Large sizes. The eVent Packas have the same dimensions as the nylon Packas above. The eVent Packa is NOT available in MediumX and LargeX. The eVent Packa weighs about 16 oz. for the Small, 17 oz. for the Medium, and 18 oz. for the Large. Only the jacket part is made with eVent material–the packcover part is the 33D nylon fabric used in the regular Packa. The eVent Packa only comes in dark olive. The cost for the eVent Packa is $260.00 + $10.00 shipping for the US and $42.50 shipping for International orders
