They started their careers in music playing with their uncle Millard Hooker and the Full Gospel Singers. They played at church services and revivals on a regular basis as well as played on radio shows in the area over WHEO in Stuart Virginia and WKTE in King North Carolina. The Boyds quickly became local heroes and started getting the attention of concert and festival promoters and record label executives. They traveled throughout the entire southeast performing at major bluegrass festivals, auditoriums & churches. They were crowd favorites and regulars at Jekyll Island Bluegrass Festival in Georgia and Lester Flatt's Mount Pilot Bluegrass Festival in Pinnacle, NC. The Boyd Brothers were 1 of only 2 artist who played the Mount Pilot festival all 7 years of its existence. How's that for crowd favorites! They recorded many albums over the years ,some regionally and several released nationally on noted bluegrass music labels including Bluegrass Caravan of Nashvlle & Atteiram Records out of Marietta Georgia. Oldest brother Jim passed away in 2003 & middle brother John in 2013. These days, youngest brother Garland pastors a church and still breaks out the guitar and makes an appearance occasionally and sings some Boyd Brothers songs at family reunions, church singings and revivals.
