Social Design and the Search for Self: Eric Fisher at TEDxCoMo

Social systems are quickly becoming part of the real world and a reflection of it, a means by which we can communicate with each other more efficiently. With people at the center of the web, we have the ability to transcend our limited physical reality and create something that can connect us faster than ever before. But in this brave new world, we must understand our existing social truths -- why we are social in the first place and what our true needs really are -- to be the most effective. The talk explores the fundamental psychological underpinnings of our human society -- in the greater spectrum of humanity and evolution -- that can explain how we can utilize social technology to move us closer to our self actualization. About Eric: Eric is a social design strategist and product architect passionate about creating systems that facilitate connections in meaningful ways. A former designer at Facebook, Eric authored and promoted their Social Design guidelines while helping companies define their product strategies and brand identities. Previously he worked at both Google and Apple in addition to consulting with a number of smaller companies in the SF Bay Area. Currently he's focused on his startup, Voxle, in which he is building better conversation channels for online communities.
