“My Man,” also known as “Mon Homme” was originally written by French composer Maurice Yvain, with French lyrics by Jacques Mardochée Charles and Albert Willemetz. The song was copyrighted in France in 1920 and introduced to Parisian audiences in the revue “Paris qui Jazz” at the Casino de Paris. With English lyrics written by Channing Pollock, the song became popular in the U.S. with the 1921 recording by singer Fannie Brice of Ziegfeld Follies, who earned a Grammy Hall of Fame Award for her recording in 1999. Brice also sang the hit song in the 1928 part-talkie film “My Man.” Through the years, other notable versions of the song have been recorded by numerous performers, including Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, and Whitney Houston. This rendition of “My Man” is improvised by pianist Charles Manning.
