A Deep Dive Into Wizard of Oz Theme Parks

The Wizard of Oz franchise is one of the best recognized around the world, so why hasn't it been incorporated into more theme parks and attractions despite being in the public domain? With a recent store opening in Universal Studios Florida that is themed to and celebrates the release of Wicked, it made me wonder why the land of Oz is not better represented in parks around the world. Today, I wanted to explore how this property has been implemented in themed experiences, from the Wizard of Oz exhibit and theming in the early MGM Grand, to how Disney incorporated the film into the Great Movie Ride, to an entire Land of Oz theme park in North Carolina. I also took a look at the ambitious but cancelled Wizard of Oz theme park that would have been built in Kansas and explore what this property might look like if Disney or Universal decided to adapt it.
