#wildlife valparai news update #HumanElephantConflict #Coimbatore #Sadivayal #Topslip #Kozhikamuthi tore: In a major step to control human–elephant conflict, the Forest Department has taken decisive action. Experienced kumki elephants Muthu and Kaveri have been relocated from the Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp (Topslip) to the Sadivayal Elephant Camp near Siruvani. In recent months, villages bordering forest areas in Coimbatore district have witnessed an increase in wild elephant intrusions, leading to crop damage and fear among residents, especially during night hours. Considering the situation, the Forest Department decided that trained kumki elephants were necessary to manage and drive back wild elephants safely into the forest. The Sadivayal camp, located close to forest regions, plays a crucial role in monitoring and controlling wild elephant movement. As some elephants previously stationed there were shifted elsewhere, Muthu and Kaveri have now been brought in to fill the gap. According to forest officials, both kumki elephants are experienced in rescue and control operations. They are skilled in guiding wild elephants away from human settlements and back into forest areas. With their arrival, authorities expect a reduction in human–elephant conflicts in villages around Siruvani, Sadivayal, and surrounding forest fringes. Local residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that peace and safety will improve in their communities. Social activists and wildlife protection groups have also appreciated the initiative, urging the department to continue implementing long-term preventive measures. – Our Reporter Vadivel
