BREAKING NEWS | Referendum overturning new Oregon transportation taxes qualifies for ballot

The Oregon Secretary of State’s Elections Division said Tuesday it had verified that a group that wants to repeal new transportation taxes passed by the Legislature earlier this year had enough signatures to get its referendum to do so on the ballot next November. No Tax Oregon, led by Republican legislators, Sen. Bruce Starr and Rep. Ed Diehl, turned in more than 191,000 signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office on Dec. 12. The Elections Division said it verified 163,451 of them, or about 85%. Now that the referendum has qualified for the ballot, the new taxes are paused until voters have their say.
