Here we have another incredible device from Effectrode in the UK - their wonderful Mercury Fuzz. Effectrode design & manufacture some of the highest-quality and most unique tube pedals around - and this is no exception. The Mercury is a super-dynamic, warm, crunchy fuzz - and unlike anything else on the market. This pedal has two parts - a tube stage (based around a NOS Sylvania subminiature pencil tube) and a vintage germanium crystal diode section. When you turn up the fuzz knob, you drive the tube & in turn slam the signal harder into the diode clipping section. Cool! There is also a 'Heat' switch - this starves the 2nd tube stage of voltage, to make it extra compressed for more squishy tube gain. Internally, there's also two trim pots - one for extra overall voltage starvation and a LPF to shelve off fizzy high end to taste. What do you think? Warm, dynamic, gritty & punchy? Inspiring?
