The Foundling Museum opened in 2004. Located on 40 Brunswick Square the building was constructed in the 1930s on the site of the Foundling Hospital, and incorporates many architectural features from the original 18th-century building. The museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, which continues today as the children's charity Coram. ‘Foundling’ is an historic term applied to children, usually babies, who have been abandoned by parents then discovered and cared for by others. Abandoned children were not unusual in the eighteenth century when the Foundling Hospital was established.
