Bogotá, 13 January 2011. Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia, welcomed GDN's 12th Annual Conference back to the Latin American continent for the first time in nine years. After the opening session, we had the opportunity to record a short interview with him in Spanish. Here's the transcript of the video: "Currently the world is living a very interesting situation. We are witnessing systemic changes: there are deep changes in the global economic structure. And there is a huge opportunity for Latin America. Latin America has what the world is looking for and if we put up the correct policies, as many research institutions are predicting. We could take a huge quantitative and qualitative leap in our development. Hence, discussions as the ones being held in this Conference (GDN 2011) are so important to correctly identify the appropriate policies to implement right now, so that we can say in some decades that we advanced and Latin America finally achieved what it has been pursuing for so long: be part of the so called developed world."
