My Books and Beliefs | Sudha Murthy in conversation with Mandira Nayar Philanthropist and writer Sudha Murthy is an inspirational figure who has brought culturally oriented children’s literature to the centre stage of discussion. Her simple yet profound stories are based on folklore and life wisdom that shows nature and human beings belonging to a common ecosystem. Understanding the old and adapting to the new, in conversation with Mandira Nayar, Murthy presents a pragmatic worldview that is nevertheless based on compassion and empathy. Presented by Dainik Bhaskar Sudha Murthy, Founder of Infosys Foundation, was one of the first women engineers to start her career at TELCO (now Tata Motors). A prolific writer in English and Kannada, her books have been translated into all major Indian languages and have sold over 30 lakh copies around the country. She is a columnist for English and Kannada dailies with 30 books and more than 250 titles to her credit – including novels, non-fiction, children’s books, travelogues, technical books, and memoirs. Recipient of nine honorary doctorates, Sudha Murthy, has also been awarded the Rajyotsava Award from the Government of Karnataka, the Padma Shri from the Government of India, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award, the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature, the Attimabbe Award from the Government of Karnataka for excellence in Kannada literature and the Lifetime Achievement by Crossword Book Awards. Mandira Nayar is a journalist with two decades of reporting experience. She writes on books, foreign affairs and culture, and is currently the deputy bureau chief at The Week. A Charles Wallace scholar, Nayar has previously worked with The Hindu and The Telegraph.
