GOTO Track 01 // Rewind & Repeat "SHADOW PROTOCOL" is a new entry in my ongoing PSX series — a collection of records I’ve been building as imagined soundtracks to lost PlayStation-era games. This series is deeply inspired by 90s/Y2K atmospheric drum and bass, ambient jungle, early liquid DnB, and the emotional tone of PS1–PS2 soundtracks. I’ve always loved how those games sounded slightly distant, slightly mysterious, like they were transmitting from another world. This album continues that exploration. In this fictional PS1 title, SHADOW PROTOCOL is a low-poly, third-person 3D mecha action game set inside a decommissioned polar defense grid. You pilot a classified prototype unit also named SHADOW PROTOCOL — a matte-black reconnaissance mech designed for silent traversal and adaptive camouflage. The government officially shut the facility down years ago, but strange energy readings have begun to pulse beneath the ice. Your mission is simple on paper: descend into the abandoned complex, locate the source of the signal, and erase any remaining data. The game unfolds across stark, fog-heavy snowfields rendered in grainy textures and shimmering draw distance. You move from wind-scoured landing pads into massive underground hangars lit by flickering sodium lights. Elevators groan as they lower your mech into geothermal caverns where frozen waterfalls hang in low-resolution blue shards. Corrupted maintenance robots drift through corridors, their pathfinding broken, attacking anything that moves. Environmental hazards are constant — collapsing ice bridges, malfunctioning security lasers, coolant floods that slow your servos. As you progress deeper, the facility begins to feel less abandoned and more quarantined. Shadowy entities flicker at the edge of the screen, like unfinished polygons. The mech glides with weighty PS1-era animations: boost dashes leaving pixelated trails, shoulder cannons unfolding with stiff mechanical grace, footsteps echoing in cavernous chambers as you uncover what the SHADOW PROTOCOL was truly built to contain. The production of the album is mainly centered around textures, one-shots and breaks coming from 90s sample CDs, together with selected samples, chops, melodic flips and atmospheric manipulations of PSX soundtracks. Best enjoyed during a late-night walk through cold air with headphones on, imagining distant lights in the fog, but also just while studying, drawing, or quietly unwinding after a long day.
