Ligation is tying by using a thread or some other material. That is called as ligation. In the department of proctology here we treat piles, one of the methods is by using rubber bands. So specialised rubber bands will be applied to the base of the piles. So that it will constrict and will stop the flow to the pile masses, but it can’t be used for all the cases of piles. There are other disadvantages like severe pain, bleeding followed by the slippage of rubber bands. Now it is not very commonly used because high end procedures like Doppler guided haemorrhoid ligation, Laser treatment for haemorrhoids are available. So nowadays it is rarely used.
