President Ruto’s National Address on Raila Odinga’s Death

President William Ruto has announced the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a “giant of democracy, a fearless freedom fighter, and one of Africa’s greatest sons.” In his national address, President Ruto declared seven days of national mourning and ordered flags to fly at half-mast across Kenya and all diplomatic missions abroad. The Head of State confirmed that Raila Odinga will be accorded a state funeral with full honours. A funeral committee, co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, has been formed to oversee arrangements. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will lead the government delegation to India to coordinate the repatriation of Raila Odinga’s remains.
