Batata Misal Pav Recipe A comforting and flavorful Maharashtrian street-style dish made with spiced potatoes, matki usal, and a delicious masala gravy. Serve it hot with pav for the perfect meal. Ingredients- For Batata Bhaji 3–4 boiled potatoes (mashed or roughly crushed) 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds Curry leaves 2 green chilies (slit) 1 onion (sliced) 1 tsp coriander powder ½ tsp turmeric powder Salt to taste Fresh coriander for garnish For Matki Usal 1 cup matki (moth beans) 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds 2 green chilies (chopped) ½ tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp red chili powder Salt to taste Fresh coriander for garnish For Misal Gravy 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seed1 onion (finely chopped) 2 tsp green masala (coriander, garlic, ginger, green chili) 2 tsp black masala (roasted coconut, garlic, fennel seeds, white sesame seeds) 1 tsp red chili powder 1 tsp kitchen king masala 1 tsp coriander powder Salt to taste Matki strained water (for gravy) Preparation- Batata Bhaji Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, and sliced onions. Sauté everything well until the onions turn golden brown. Add coriander powder and turmeric powder, then mix in boiled potatoes. Combine everything nicely and garnish with freshly chopped coriander. Matki Chi Bhaji Pressure cook the matki for 2 whistles and then strain it, keeping the water aside for the gravy. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and chopped green chilies. Add the boiled matki and mix well. Season with salt, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Mix everything together and garnish with fresh coriander. Misal Gravy Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds followed by finely chopped onions. Sauté until the onions become golden brown. Add homemade masalas – green masala (made with coriander, garlic, ginger, and green chilies) and black masala (made with roasted coconut, garlic, fennel seeds, and white sesame seeds). Mix well and add red chili powder, kitchen king masala, coriander powder, and salt. Sauté the masalas properly and then add the water reserved from the matki. Let the gravy cook for 2–3 minutes. Assembling the Misal In a serving bowl, first add the batata bhaji, then the matki usal, and pour the hot misal gravy on top.
