Rise Up (Pat Metheny) - Alex Price junior recital

For business, lessons, & questions -   / alexpricemusician   Performed and recorded during my junior recital at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Back in November, I had seen the Pat Metheny Unity Group as they were on tour in support of their 2014 album "Kin." I bought it at the show and it quickly became one of my favorite albums. In January I decided I want to try my ear at transcribing something from the album. The second track, "Rise Up," was so cool. Folk harmony and a heavy-strummed acoustic guitar mixed with a Fender rhodes sound and the awesome work of Antonio Sanchez on drums made this song so unique. The changing meter and heavy duple implications in a mostly 6/8 feel gave the song such a smooth groove. I owe major props to the band for kicking butt on this song. Justin Mathis (soprano saxophone) became Chris Potter, Andrew Milliken (keyboard) became Giulio Carmassi, Drew Bayura (bass guitar) became Ben Williams, and Jesse Griffith (drum set) became Antonio Sanchez. You can hear more of this band on my channel. Logic crashed at the beginning and so the first 4 minutes or so are from a backup mic that was placed farther back in the room. When Logic fixed itself and began recording again it was partway through the song. I merged the two together. Kin (stylized as KIN (←→)) is a studio album by American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and his Unity Group, a newly expanded version of 2012's Unity Band; the lineup now features multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi, along with featured saxophone soloist Chris Potter. Kin was released in February 2014 by Nonesuch Records. It was recorded in June 2013 at MSR Studios in New York. Metheny has said that his idea behind Kin was to push the quartet-led concept that led to Unity Band further forward by adding more orchestration to the instrumental core of the band, so that Kin would be "more like the Technicolor, IMAX version of what a band like this could be—but with that hardcore thing still sitting right in the middle of it all." The album also re-explores the concepts of world view, unity and the global village explored on previous Pat Metheny Group albums such as Letter from Home and We Live Here. #RiseUp #PatMetheny #UnityGroup ================================= Hi!
