This is our 94th video documenting our exploration of the model railroading hobby. It is the 26th video for our fourth (HO Scale) layout. In this video, we show the unboxing of a new Broadway Limited Imports model of the EMD SD70 ACe locomotive. The SD70 series is one of the most popular locomotives in use in our area today. The ACe version is one of the more common versions. This model is BLI's first die cast metal locomotive, as opposed to the more common plastic or brass models. This makes it fairly heavy for its size. I believe the weight contributes to how well it runs and pulls. It ran well right from the box, pulling as long a train (around 35 cars) as I am willing to put on our layout. I really am impressed with the model. Nice detailing all around, and well packaged to protect the detailing. Little features like the flashing ditch lights when you use the horn are very life-like. we chose the version in UP Heritage paint for the DRG&W railroad, because I have always liked that line and the paint scheme shown. This is first diesel locomotive I have seen that includes a smoke unit. While this is common on steam locomotives, diesels do produce exhaust smoke (a lot sometimes) and this is the first model I have seen with this feature. Congratulations, Broadway Limited Imports. You did a great job with this one. I would love to see more cast metal models.
