In the era of electrification, AI data centers, and growing populations, how will Delaware get the energy it needs? Join Delaware Sea Grant and the Lewes Public Library for a conversation with energy experts as we explore these topics and bring questions of your own! Delaware imports approximately 60% of the electricity it uses from other states via our regional electric grid (EIA). Increasing dialogue about the state’s and nation’s energy reliability prompts the need for discussion about technologies, the electric grid’s function, economics, social considerations, and more. Particularly of interest are Delaware’s efforts to examine avenues for new electricity generation. The Delaware General Assembly, in its 2025 session, passed a bill to create a Nuclear Feasibility Task Force to explore the potential of allowing nuclear small modular reactors (SMRs) in Delaware. Delaware currently has no nuclear energy facilities, while other states in the PJM region supply this form of electricity to our shared electric grid. This panel provides an opportunity to hear from experts across different sectors of energy systems, including industry, energy efficiency, and policymaking. The panelists will provide brief presentations, followed by an open session for questions and discussion with attendees. Panelists include: Drew Slater, Executive Director of Energize Delaware Robert DeNight, Vice President of Nuclear Engineering at PSEG (Public Service Enterprise Group) Tom Noyes, Administrator of the State Energy Office, DNREC (Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control) Delaware Sea Grant at the University of Delaware helps local communities wisely use, manage, and conserve our state's valuable coastal resources by fostering sustainable coastal economies, developing resilience to coastal hazards, and preparing the next generation of coastal leaders. Delaware Sea Grant is one of 34 federal-university partnership programs across the U.S. and its territories within the National Sea Grant Program.
