Today we prepared small and big fish curry in a traditional village style. First, the small and big fish were cleaned properly and cut into pieces. Mustard seeds were ground on a stone grinder along with red chili, garlic, and turmeric. In the courtyard, a clay stove was lit and a kadhai was placed on it. Mustard oil was heated, and the fish pieces were lightly fried first and kept aside. Then in the same kadhai, the ground mustard paste and spices were sautéed to prepare the gravy. Water was added, and the fish were cooked in the gravy. Slowly, the mustard flavor blended beautifully into the fish. The hot Bihari-style fish curry was served with rice, and the whole family enjoyed the meal together.
