Originally streamed Jan 13, 2023. An attempt at doing the first difficult mission of the Promathia expansion, the Promyvions. I have always played Final Fantasy XI on and off since it's beginning. I played the original release for awhile and stopped playing shortly after Chains of Promathia came out. I came back for the Treasures of Aht Urhgan and played for awhile, through the Wings of the Goddess expansion, and quit again sometime after the add-on scenarios came out. I missed the Abyssea era when the level cap was finally raised from 75 to 99. Finally I came back during the Seekers of Adoulin and got a taste of the game in it's "level 99 era." I realized I much preferred the game in it's earlier expansions. After a time, I started to become curious about "legacy" private servers, which attempt to recreate the old school feel from when the game had a level 75 cap. Nasomi was the first popular private server to do this, a reasonable but somewhat primitive attempt. Then came the "Eden" private server, which is still the most accurate private server to reproduce the mechanics of the game and it's first few expansions. Each of those had their time of being incredibly popular for awhile. The newest and most popular private server to date, Horizon, takes a slightly different approach to Eden. Rather than go for full accuracy to what the game was mechanically like, it goes for general spiritual accuracy but with lots of adjustments. The plan was to do this even with the level 99 content like Seekers of Adoulin, which would have been fascinating. Unfortunately as I write this, they still haven't even gotten as far as the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion, which Eden had done. Never the less, Horizon remains a pretty cool private server and they seem to still be the most popular as I write this in 2026. I have so many fond memories of playing this game! It's still a unique combination of old school MMO challenging content and beautiful Japanese graphics which makes it by far my favorite MMORPG. It also has a devastatingly amazing soundtrack which has amassed many amazing tracks over it's various expansions (which personally I VERY MUCH prefer over FF14's.) Perhaps this will always remain my favorite MMORPG, it's just a unique combination that works perfectly for me.
