Whitewater State Park, Minnesota is a popular 2700-acre park which preserves a stretch of the Whitewater River. Whitewater State Park is known for its beautiful rocky limestone bluffs, scenic overlooks, and trout fishing. The park also has a noticeable lack of mosquitoes, due to the topography and virtually no standing water. There are ten miles of hiking trails at Whitewater State Park, Minnesota. We hiked a portion of the Trout Run Creek Trail, which is an easy two mile out and back trail along Trout Run Creek. We saw a lot beautiful wildflowers along this route. Due to a bridge being partially submerged underwater, we turned around and headed up the stairs to Inspiration Point. This is a moderately challenging route with an elevation gain of 475 feet. The overlook at Inspiration Point is gorgeous as you stand out on a limestone outcrop and look at the surrounding bluffs. We also hiked the Coyote Point Trail. This is a moderately challenging route with an elevation gain of 652 feet. This hike also has beautiful overlooks of the surrounding bluffs. We hiked this trail in early September and the tall grasses on the prairie section of this park were amazing. Whitewater State Park has over one hundred campsites, eighty-five of which are electric. The park is an angler’s paradise with brown, brook, and rainbow trout abundant in the Whitewater River and Trout Run Creek. The park also has two picnic areas, a swimming beach, and year-round interpretive programs. An annual permit for Minnesota State Parks is $35 and provides unlimited visits to all state parks for a full year.
