This is the 61st video of our growth in the model railroading hobby and the twenty-first video for our N scale layout (layout #2). While we were at our favorite hobby shop (Dibble's in San Antonio), they had a new set of the Amtrak Superliner passenger cars from Kato, which we had been looking for. When we had been there a few weeks ago, I asked them to hold a Broadway Limited Imports model of the Norfolk & Western Y6b steam locomotive and we picked it up today. I tossed in the one addition to the layout that was unusual. Chris bought a new 3-D printer and was able to print an N-scale copy of the Nakatomi Tower (or Fox Plaza as it is known in real life) that was in the Die Hard movie. We need to paint it, but the tower is there now. I showed off the new Amtrak cars because we had been looking for them. This allowed us to produce a second train, one in current configuration to match the phase 1 model we have had. The phase 1 trains match the ones I remember riding in the 70s and the current model matches the one we rode with my grandchildren to Dallas. The Y6b is a powerful, articulated steam locomotive with a 2-8-8-2 wheel configuration. The Y6 series was only built for Norfolk & Western, who never sold any of them to any other railroads. They retired all of them, scrapping most, by around 1959. There is one Y6a in a museum in St. Louis (sorry, in the video I said Virginia but it went back to St. Louis in 2020) at present. At the time they were built, the Y6 class was among the most powerful locomotives made, with the Y6b able to produce approximately 170,000 pounds-feet of tractive effort. And we want to thank everyone who is watching the videos and subscribing to the channel. We now have over 400 subscribers, a number we never even dreamed of hitting. We appreciate all of the support and interest.
