04/15 LQBTQ+ AND CHORAL SINGING: Sven Keet (Amsterdam Conservatoire, Netherlands) Part of the "Festival Forum 2024: Singing is for EVERYONE" event, where choral practitioners, researchers, and advocates held a forum at the City of Derry International Choir Festival in October 2024 to explore diversity, equality, and inclusion in choral singing. In partnership with Sing Ireland and Proud Voices, and with contributions from other pioneering voices, the Forum delved into key topics such as the role of LGBTQ+ choirs, rethinking traditional SATB structures, and the power of choral singing within migrant and Deaf communities. Chaired by composer Brian Irvine at Ulster University, the event featured inspiring discussions, research presentations, and live workshops with community choirs—celebrating the idea that singing truly is for everyone.
