Fall Lawn Care NOTE: only use prodiamine or Dimension / dithiopyr if you are NOT SEEDING the lawn. Dimension vs Prodiamine Pre-Emergent for Fall Dimension is a brand name for active ingredient dithiopyr. Dithiopyr is a pre-emergent herbicide. The primary targets in fall are annual bluegrass (poa annua), henbit, bittercress and chickweed. Prodiamine is another active ingredient that does the same thing. Which one should you choose if you are on the Yard Mastery program? Watch the video and then view details below: Annual maximums for prodiamine granular are as follows: Bahiagrass, Centipedegrass, Bermudagrass, Zoysia, St. Augustinegrass, Tall Fescue (including turf-type) Recommended Rate: 3lbs per 1,000 sq ft Maximum Rate Yearly: 9.3 pounds per 1,000 sq ft per year If you are on the YM program, we will have recommended 2 applications of prodiamine in the spring using up 6lbs of your yearly max. Now that we are in fall, you can make another application now (Sept/Oct). If you live in Florida or S, Texas, you may need another application in November or December and that is when you'd switch to Dimension/Dithiopyr. Note: the calendar and yearly max amounts reset on Jan 1 of each season. IOW, it's a calendar year use restriction. Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass Recommended Rate: 3lbs per 1,000 sq ft Maximum Rate Yearly: 6.2 pounds per 1,000 sq ft per year If you are on the YM program, we will have recommended 2 applications of prodiamine in the spring using up ALL 6 lbs of your yearly max. Now that we are in fall, IF YOU ARE NOT SEEDING THE LAWN, then you should apply pre-emergent and since you've used up all the allowable prodiamine, you should purchase Dimension/dithiopyr and use that.
