Ep. 5 - The ARRI Pocket Par 125 In this episode, we crack open the ARRI Pocket Par 125 Kit—a beautifully engineered but underappreciated daylight fixture that never quite got the love it deserved. With its precision optics and razor-clean beam, it was a technician’s dream for tight location work or dialing in a “special” with surgical control. But despite its quality, it showed up late to the party—overshadowed by the more affordable and widely adopted K5600 Joker-Bugs that had already dominated the space. No stand in the kit, steep price tag, and arguably too refined for its own good, the Pocket Par 125 was an example of smart design caught in the wrong market moment. Still, in the right hands, it was a tiny triumph. *** The Old School Lighting Show is a little idea that Nick Zgradic of The Lighting Architectural Firm (aka The LA Firm) had because it's always fun to look back at some of the lighting and related gear that we've used throughout the years in the studio and production business. And the reality is, in many aways there's nothing stopping anyone from using this "old school gear" in today's productions either. As a matter of fact in a lot of ways, using the old school stuff just might make your pictures look better than you thought they could... sometimes... If you're willing to put in the extra work and wear hot gloves while you're doing it.
