Welcome to Wastwater—England’s deepest and perhaps most dramatic lake, hidden in the wild and rugged western Lake District. Today, we’re exploring this breathtaking spot, discovering its secrets, and soaking in the beauty of this remote paradise. Getting to Wastwater is an adventure in itself. Nestled in the western fells of the Lake District, it’s a bit off the beaten path, but trust me—it’s worth every mile. This is the reward for your journey. Crystal-clear water, surrounded by towering peaks—Scafell Pike, Great Gable, and Yewbarrow. It’s no wonder Wastwater was once voted Britain’s favorite view! This lake is DEEP—258 feet to be exact. That makes it England’s deepest lake. And beneath these dark waters? A hidden world, including legendary car wrecks and even old aircraft remains. One of the best ways to experience Wastwater is on foot. There are stunning trails all around, from gentle lakeside walks to full-on mountain hikes. If you’re up for a challenge, Scafell Pike—the highest peak in England—is right nearby.
