And those who, as a child, spent many afternoons eating chocolate and unwrapping Kinder eggs, know these 32 grams of happiness, locked inside the soul. Everyone has their own room of memories, jealously protected and guarded, and the Museum of Surprises is – literally – my room of memories, born in 1991 in the heart of a 3-year-old child, who today – in 2024 – is 36. The Museum of Surprises is the first documentary film on the great history of the Kinder egg, which this year turns 50. The work traces the history of the egg from 1974 to modern times, focusing on the period from 1991 to 2004. It all started with the Happypotami (Happy Hippos) Ferrero revolutionized the concept of his surprises, introducing on the market - inside the Kinder egg already on the market since 1974 - a whole surprise, which cannot be assembled or disassembled, and which was also hand-painted, thus inaugurating a line of anthropomorphic animals capable of instantly capturing the hearts of children of the time. After a few months, in January 1992 the Tartallegre (Tiny Turtles) were published, while in September of the same year the Coccodritti (Crazy Crocos) arrived. In 1993, however, it was the turn of the Ranoplà, the LeoVenturas and the saga of the Gnomburloni began. The Gnomburloni could be found inside Kinder snacks, for example Kinder Brioss and Kinder Colazione Più, but also inside the eggs (in the following years the Gnomi al bagno, the Gnomi artigiani and the Gnomi 4 stagioni were published). In 1994, instead, it was the turn of the PandaParty and the PinguiBeach. In 1995 the saga of the Coccodritti was re-proposed with new characters and a new series, therefore the Coccobulli were published and subsequently the Squalìbabà. In 1996, instead, it was the turn of the HappyDinos, the Fantasmini (Glowing Ghosties) and the saga of the nativity scenes began. The nativity scenes could be found at the end of the year, therefore between November and December, and it was a package that once opened could be built and transformed into a beautiful nativity scene. In 1997, instead, the Elefantao and the Miaogizi were published; in 1998 it was the turn of the Sir Condor and the Stralunati. In 1998, moreover, the publication of the “bonus” series began, which, like the Gnomburloni, could be found among the top series. It was the turn of the Luna Park teddy bears. In 1999, however, the Castorcin, the SuperGiraffe and the W 2000 series were published. This was a series that could always be found between November and December, therefore at the end of the year, and was created to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium, the long-awaited Two Thousand. In 2000, Los Pappagalos, the Vampirelli and the Happy Rabbits series were published. Like the Luna Park, the Happy Rabbits could also be found among the top series. In 2001, however, it was the turn of the Orsetten and there was the return of the Fantasmini. Then the Fantasmini returned, who had been enormously successful, in a series set in a shopping centre. Also in 2001, in the summer, Kinder Merendero (Kinder Joy) was published nationwide and inside it the Happypotami characters were re-proposed, who were celebrating their tenth anniversary, in the series Happy Hippos on holiday in the South Seas. In 2002, Balenotti and Angelino & Satanello were published. In Kinder Merendero, in the summer, you could find the Aquashow series. In 2003 it was the turn of Cybertop, Paleoboys and in Kinder Merendero there was the remake of Tartallegre. It was the same series as 1992, so the molds were identical, but the series was re-proposed with a different color, in fact the base color is a brighter green, almost a highlighter green, while the 1992 series was a dark green. In 2004, it was the turn of Motocoyote, Missione Talpa, Doraemon and other series.
