April 10, 2005 - They loaded the train that afternoon, backed out of the wye, and headed north. They stopped at Singer, LA, for southbound trains and inspected the journals and rods. A defect detector showed an overwidth alarm, but after inspection, all was fine. Near Leesville, smoke poured from the engine due to an overheated connecting rod bushing. The crew backed the train into an industrial lead to clear the main for a southbound train, pumped grease into the bearing to cool it and then continued to Leesville, where, despite the delay, a crowd awaited.
