Is it really haunted? The hotel is said to be haunted by Alice B. Toklas, the partner of Gertrude Stein and inventor of the weed brownie. Some say she can be seen in the halls, especially around room 408, and that she can curse lights and drinks. The Hotel Sorrento in Seattle, Washington has a rich history, including its opening in 1909, its Italian Renaissance style architecture, and its association with notable guests. The hotel was designed by architect Harlan Thomas in an Italian Renaissance style inspired by The Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy. The hotel's Fireside Room features a fireplace with Rookwood tiles that were the first commercial installation by the Rookwood Pottery Company.
