In this video, I'm diving into the recent controversy after Michael B. Jordan’s Oscar win, where certain groups in the Pan-African community—specifically in Ghana—tried to claim his victory as their own. While Michael mentioned his father flew in from Ghana, I’m setting the record straight: Michael B. Jordan is a Foundational Black American (FBA) with deep roots in the American South, and just because his father lives in Ghana doesn't make this a Ghanaian win. I’m breaking down why this "tethering" and "borrowed privilege" happens, especially when other groups aggressively gatekeep their own cultures (like we saw with the Jorvet liquor situation) but want to attach themselves to Black American prestige the moment we hit a global stage. We’re talking about lineage, the importance of delineation, and why everyone needs to stand on their own individual accomplishments instead of trying to weave themselves into ours. It's time to keep that same energy across the board—if you gatekeep yours, don't be surprised when we gatekeep ours. #MichaelBJordan #FBA #Delineation #Ghana #AcademyAwards #Tethering #PanAfricanism #BlackPrestige #Gatekeeping #OshayDukeJackson
