US protests turn violent as Trump pledges troops in Chicago, Portland amid migrant crackdown

Protests erupted across the U.S. on Sunday against President Donald Trump's plans to send troops from the National Guard to a growing list of American cities. The White House says the move is needed to crack down on crime and illegal immigration. Trump told reporters on Sunday that he will be pushing forward with plans to deploy troops to Portland and Chicago. However, a federal judge has temporarily blocked him from deploying 200 Oregon National Guard troops to the city of Portland while a lawsuit challenging the move plays out. "No president is allowed to make up facts or rely on social media trolling or posts when deploying the United States military in our cities," Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said. Meanwhile, scores of protesters faced off against federal immigration agents on Chicago's southwest side on Saturday after U.S. Border Patrol personnel shot an armed woman, the Department of Homeland Security said.
