Chiquitita Spanish version. The backing track, including the bass line, is the same as the English version. The bass was played by Rutger Gunnarsson. The English version was released in January 1979 and was performed at the UNICEF charity concert held at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York that same month. The concert featured various artists such as the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire alongside ABBA. Proceeds from the song were donated to UNICEF, and the song remains one of the most iconic charity songs in pop history. Later in 1979, ABBA released the Spanish version of Chiquitita. This version was later included in the album Gracias por la música, a Spanish-language compilation of ABBA songs. The vocals for that album were recorded and produced by Michael B. Tretow, ABBA’s long-time sound engineer who played a vital role in creating the group’s sound from their early days through their active years. In memory of Michael B. Tretow, who passed away on 20 May 2025 at the age of 80. His contribution to ABBA’s music was truly irreplaceable. Rest in peace. Thank you to @lucpraslan, @nethan_karerakattil, and @beautifulgirls2025 for requesting this song!
