Little School House was one of the eight bands that performed in the Limketkai Mall Saturday for the Visayas-Mindanao eliminations of NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool 2010. The top five winners, who will be announced this week, will be taken from the best bands in the Vismin area and in Luzon, whose 22 bands held their own eliminations last October 2 in Manila. Little School House is a five-piece fusion funk rock band based in Cagayan de Oro City formed in late 2007. The members are vocalist Mark King, guitarist Daniel Lardizabal, bassist Kinase Ramos, drummer Alex Gopez and keyboardist Nestor Punay. The band's varied musical style has fused traditional rock and funk with various elements and OPM music. LSH is one of the rising bands in Cagayan de Oro City and has been performing to large audiences. They're currently finishing the final composition process of their debut album, "Pilipino I," which celebrates nationalism, change and romance. The band's active musical ventures are as follows: released their first music video on YouTube, "Iba-isa"; shared stages with Eevee, 6 cyclemind, Spongecola, Noel Cabangon, Glock 9, Moonstar 88, Hale, Urbandub, Pedicab, Itchyworms, Imago, Sugarfree, Taken by Cars, Paraluman, Callalily, Sandwich, Hilera and Letter Day Story; Soundskool 2009 finalist and People's choice winner; Champion of the city Battle of the Bands last year, and focus on music education. The name Little School House was inspired by the former name of Corpus Christi School where the band schooled together. LSH covers a rich background in music and music business: Alex Gopez, student of one of the nation's proficient drum teachers, Jojo Marzon; Kinase Ramos was a member of Namaskar, finalist of a prestigious battle of the bands contest; Daniel Lardizabal independently released the compilation CD "Under the Same Sky" with other foreign artists and is a student of the world-renowned music instructor Tom Hess. LSH also advocates change and supports the development of the Philippines. Since 2005, NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool has been searching for promising college bands that will be tomorrow's hottest young talents. The competition has produced hit bands such as Hilera (2005), Letter Day Story (2008), and last year's Grand Winner, Eevee. Not only does NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool pave the way for the new breed of Pinoy stars, it also gives contestants a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be trained by some of the best mentors in the music industry. This year, things have become more extreme as the search for the best college bands of the Philippines has intensified. Early this year, NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool brought the competition straight to the colleges and universities via a mobile recording studio where young hopefuls can record their entries for the competition. The excitement isn't just for the contestants, though. NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool 2010 now gives supporters the chance to make connections with the bands through text voting and online activities. Fans can show their support for their favorite bands through text votes, which will be included in the criteria for the Grand Finals. Fans can also have a taste of the NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool experience through its Facebook fan page and the official Web site to see what other bands have to offer. Aside from the privilege to undergo music training workshop and mentoring with some of the Philippine music industry's top performers and personalities, five finalists from all over the country will compete for P500,000 and a record label deal with Sony Music Philippines. As a bonus, the school that the winning band is representing will receive a musical showcase worth P100,000. Sponsors for this year's NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool are Sony Music Entertainment Philippines, Inc., Sony Philippines, and La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel, and Hard Rock Café Makita.
