The ESR Classic Hybrid with Stand looks like a smart upgrade — take a budget case, add a built-in kickstand, and boom, instant convenience. But after 30 drop tests, that stand turned out to be the case’s biggest weakness. It adds weight, throws off balance, and actually makes your iPhone 17 less protected. Yikes. ESR for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case with Stand, Camera Control Cover Compatible with MagSafe, Military-Grade Drop Protection Magnetic Phone Case for iPhone 17 Pro Max, Scratch-Resistant Back Cover, Clear Review -Simple clear case -Has oversized corners -offers better clearance for the screen as well as the back -there is a stand built into the camera lump -allows you to set it up at one angle for landscape -and portrait -though it's not that stable for portrait mode -handles like a typical clear case -sliglyt tacky edges -super smooth back -fingerprints are going to be an issue -having the stand on this case makes it the heaviest one I've reviewed so for at 50g -the ESR classic hybrid I reviewed last video only weighed 38g -bulk wise, where your hands are at, it's only going to make the device feel 56% bigger -for corner drops -the iPhone felt around 11.1G's which is 8% higher than average -the amount of spin from the case was higher by 30% because of the extra weight -the settling down rate was 34% lower than average, which is 2% worse than the classic hybrid -and because of the extra rigid camera lump area, the overall force on the iPhone was higher by 15% -I totally though having a big more structure to the top of the phone would improve corner drop protection...it didn't -now remember the red flag from the last video? This classic hybrid failed my face first drop tests -the stand version, with it's rigid camera lump didn't -BUT when compared to other case that passed -Initial impact was higher -the settling down rate was lower which is good -BUT the overall force going into the iPhone was 25% higher -these are not good results -with the camera lump drops -the results are equally terrible -which was expected given that the iPhone is landing on basically metal -initial impact was 15% higher -decay rate was average -overall force going into the iPhone through the camera lump was 42% higher than average -this is the first camera lump stand case I've reviewed and if this is any indication of what that extra feature does to an iPhone in a drop -count me out -ESR built some decent durability features -things like the oversized corners and PC back help with protection -corners are quite thick, sitting at 3.1mm ish -the corners also have air pockets -the case does have a PC back that covers the glass portion of the back -the camera lump stand housing is also PC so that area is quite rigid -the piece between the camera lump and big PC back is TPU -and that's a bad thing -because all the flex in the case goes through that tiny piece of TPU -the completely soft Classic hybrid case took 11.9N to bend at 8mm, this case took 12.2N -60% of the other cases I've reviewed have stronger backs -oddly enough, despite being the same case -the magnetic strenght on the stand version was slightly stronger than the non -11.7 PUll, 17.9 push, -this case is stronger than 44% of the other cases I've reviewed -Buttons are terrible -Camera control is an actual button which is great -will note that the port cutout has a nice chamfer -so it's pinky friendly
