The Demensions hailed from Christopher Columbus High school in the Bronx, New York. The group members were the late Lenny Dell (Del Giudice) lead & founder, Howie Margolin, Phil Del Giudice & Maria Martelli. This is a special upload today Friday September 19, 2025 to honor the late Lenny Dell. He passed away on September 19, 2021 from the terrible disease Covid 19! I spoke with Lenny back on February 9, 2021, as I was getting ready to upload The Demensions’ cover version of The Harptones’ classic “THAT’S THE WAY IT GOES” on our new POP channel for “Valentine’s Day”. We spoke for more than 2 hours discussing The Demensions’ musical journey and all the “GREAT” songs they recorded through the years. I also mentioned to him how much I admired their sound and distinct musical arrangements that set them apart from all the other acts. It was a great conversation!! The Demensions had 2 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest, “OVER THE RAINBOW” (Mohawk #116) charted in September 1960 for 15 weeks and reached #16. Their other song that charted was “MY FOOLISH HEART” (Coral #62344) in March 1963 for 3 weeks and reached #95. “AS TIME GOES BY” is a pop standard written by Herman Hupfeld for the 1931 Broadway musical “Everybody's Welcome” which opened on October 31, 1931. In the original show, it was sung by Frances Williams. It was first recorded by Rudy Vallée on July 25, 1931, for Brunswick Records. The song was made memorable when sung by Dooley Wilson in the 1942 film “Casablanca”. The song connected the characters Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman). “AS TIME GOES BY” has been covered by many artists: Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Jo Stafford, Harry Nilsson, Jimmy Durante, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Johnny Nash, Frankie Lymon, The Duprees, The Flamingos, Louis Armstrong, Nostalgia 5, Clyde McPhatter and just too many more to list!
