Come join us for an epic Canada Road Trip as we hop in a vehicle with Togo and Audrey's parents traveling out east to visit the Maritimes Provinces. After a highly successful road trip in Canada last fall to visit British Columbia and Alberta to see the Canadian Rockies, we decided to reunite the travel squad of Audrey's Mom and Dad and Togo the German Shepherd to see Atlantic Canada. The first day we packed all of our suitcases in the rental vehicle, a spacious Ford Flex, pulling out of Brampton, Ontario early in the morning. The first day we drove a bit further than Montreal crossing provinces from Ontario to Quebec. We made time to visit Audrey's Uncle who lives in Montreal before arriving in our cabin for the evening. Unfortunately, the mosquitos were so bad that we spent our initial moments swatting them as opposed to relaxing. After getting rid of most of them we cracked upon a bottle of wine to celebrate the first day of driving on this road trip. It was a busy day since we had to bypass the two biggest cities in Canada (Toronto and Montreal) and traffic at times was hectic. The second day involved a little bit less driving as we headed towards the maritime provinces of New Brunswick. Once we bypassed Quebec City the highways really cleared and sections were almost bare. We noticed as we crossed into New Brunswick that we could see more forests, mountains and signs warning us about Moose crossings. One of the highlights was stopping in Hartland to visit the longest covered bridge in the world. Upon arriving in Fredericton it felt like coming home since my Mom and Dad live there. This is just the start of our road trip in Canada as we plan to visit New Brunswick, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) and Prince Edward Island covering all of the Maritimes. We hope you'll join us for the next episode from New Brunswick! 🚗🗺️ Family Road Trip Kickoff: Toronto to Fredericton via Ontario & Quebec | Canada Summer Adventure 🇨🇦 🐾 Meet Our Travel Buddy: Togo the Dog Our journey begins as Togo, our eager four-legged companion, becomes the first passenger aboard our vehicle. Today is a travel day—the official start of our two-week road trip to Atlantic Canada! The plan: drive across Ontario and Quebec, then tour the Maritimes, including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Togo is part of the family tradition, having joined us on last year’s Rockies adventure, and he’s back for this East Coast road trip! 🚙 Hitting the Road: Toronto to Montreal We leave Toronto a bit later than planned, packing the car with road trip essentials—suitcases, homemade chicken sandwiches, and banana bread. Our first major stop: Montreal, to visit family. Along the way, we take regular breaks for Togo to stretch his legs and sniff around, which makes the journey smoother for everyone. Tip: Traveling with a dog means lots of pit stops—every 1.5 to 2 hours is our magic formula! 🥪 Roadside Eats & Classic Canadian Pit Stops First break is at Port Hope’s “En Route” rest stop, where we enjoy homemade sandwiches in the park area. Soon after, we visit the legendary Big Apple—Ontario’s iconic roadside attraction—where we watch apple pies being made (over 6 million sold!), sample caramel apple chips, and pick up pie for relatives. 🍏 Fun Fact: The Big Apple is a must-see for foodies and families, with a giant apple structure and bakery tours. 🏞️ Entering Quebec: Language, Culture & Roadside Humor Crossing into Quebec, Canada’s French-speaking province, we encounter quirky town names (like St. Louis Ha Ha), French road signs, and a distinct culture. Though we’re tempted to explore more, our goal is to make it to our lakeside cottage before dark. 👨👩👦 Family Visits, Traffic & Countryside Cabins We stop in Montreal to visit family, then continue our drive through city traffic and highway construction. By nightfall, we finally reach our rustic cabin in the woods, swarmed by mosquitoes but happy to settle in. The evening is spent with wine, snacks, and plans for a proper tour of the cabin the next day. 🌲 Morning in the Woods & Quebec Scenery The next day dawns early as we battle mosquitoes and walk Togo by the lake. The cottage is revealed to be cozy and close to nature—a perfect launch point for our drive to Fredericton. Today’s journey is a long one—7.5 hours—mostly spent driving through Quebec’s scenic landscapes, with stops to feed and walk Togo, and to enjoy more homemade banana bread. 🐶 Dog Travel Tip: Having a system for walks, meals, and breaks keeps everyone (including Togo) happy! 🚦 Crossing Into New Brunswick: Culture, Language & Cleanliness As we cross into New Brunswick, we marvel at the province’s bilingual nature (French and English), its clean highways, and extensive safety fencing to prevent moose collisions. We even stop in Hartland, home to the world’s longest covered bridge (1,282 feet!), and are amazed you can still drive across it. CANADA ROAD TRIP | Traveling out east to visit the Maritime Provinces
