The Marlin LED lantern, that was made by Advanced LEDs and E.ON, UK's leading power and gas company. E.ON and Advanced LEDs started to work together in October 2007 to produce a low energy streetlight that would light the UK's streets. On the 5th of January 2010, it was announced that the low energy streetlight was released. They believe that the lantern would consume up to 70 percent less energy than traditional streetlights e.g sodium fixtures. The Marlin also has the ability to reduce the UK's carbon footprint by 853,013 tonnes and save £33,000 when operating (full lifespan). The lantern was also known to be the first LED PFI compliant lantern to be manufactured entirely through the UK. The LEDs do not contain any mercury or heavy metal which means they are cost effective to dispose when their life cycle ends. The Marlin were made in Coventry by Remploy. Now, the Marlin's body is made out of die cast aluminium and uses a flat glass which is held by 6 screws. They could use 10 large CREE LEDs, and the lantern wattage could go up to 65 MAX. These also use a reflector with a unique shape, and to be fair, the lantern looks like to be retrofitted than being made like a traditional LED lantern. Their lifespan is around 150,000 hours, given a 25 year guarantee. The LEDs give off a clean white light (6000k), in addition to Remploy that improves the colour rendition to the LEDs. They could be only mounted side entry, with the diameter being 48mm. They use a LED driver to give the correct wattage to the LEDs and switch the current, AC to DC, instead of using the old ballast that traditional lanterns used. They were made up to 2013, and then discontinued as Advanced LEDs made a mk.II version, named the Clipper, where as this one is the mk.I version. Quite like these. Hope you enjoy the video!
