Devon Hard Roadbook - 180KM - This day DESTROYS me and the bike... Early on it might even have been the first lane of the day I had a melt down when i found my pegs didn't even fit due to how deep the ruts where but due to the ground and vegetation there was no way around this. I had pulled something around my core, breathing was painful in itself deep breathing was not an option then if you skip to 05:44 I manage to fix this issue by moving the feeling of pain hahaha. 0544 - I rolled back from the fallen tree to get a run up at it however i rolled back too far and ended up rolling backwards into a drainage ditch, I felt the back end drop and watched the front end go up and over me, I remember thinking "well this is going to hurt" felt the thud as i hit the ground and braced myself for the bike landing on me. Thankfully the main weight of the bike did not land on me the bars hit the edge of the ditch and took the most of it, I took a few seconds to let everything settle then realized my right ankle was pinned under the bike. I then realized the position i was in meant i didn't have a chance of moving the T7, I still tried but then managed to push a little weight of it and gently wiggle my ankle free the dirt was lose enough to give way under it. This was a seriously stupid mistake and down right embarrassing but I was tired and already broken so here it is for you all to laugh at. 1422 - It doesn't look like much but when the bike gets knocked that's my foot stopping the bike getting caught between he peg and a rock. It damn well hurt and typing this out over a month after the incident i am still feeling it, the rest of the ride didn't get easier and the foot got worse. 2444 - The stepping stones where very slippery and the water on both sides was deep, if you went off to the right that was the end for me, the bike would have drowned and no one wants to try and empty a T7 of water. The left side had been proven to be rideable but it looked questionably deep so i didn't want to find out. Going down the middle on the stones it was then... this still was not exactly an easy option as you see i still get stuck in a few places and near the end my rear wheel spins a little and starts moving to the right edge but in the end i do make it across without any swimming. This was indeed an eventful day, it broke me (I think it might have literally broke my foot) and it cooked the bike, the clutch was slipping by the end of the day the tires where looking worse for ware and the steering head bearing started to have some play. I couldn't wait to pitch up and get to sleep but that didn't even go to plan I struggled to find anywhere to pitch up but eventually i found a decent spot. ----------------------------------------------------- "What is the SW Super 8? Our summer series, known as the SW Super8, incorporates eight digital roadbooks across four counties in the southwest. The roadbooks will be split into four easy to navigate routes and four that will test your navigational skills more. Each county will host one easy and one moderate roadbook." (direct extract from Xplore roadbook's site. https://www.xploreroadbooks.com/ ) So i decided to do this series last minute when i found out i had some leave from work. I booked onto the series, downloaded the app, messaged the organizer to ask how short a period of time it could be done in then loaded my bike up and set off. There where 8 roadbooks, I gave myself 7 days to complete them and didn't book anywhere to stay, I brought with me a poncho, bivi bag, American blanket (woobie) and a change of clothes. I wild camped every night, found local shops to eat and drink in and only came off the routes to get fuel if required. From my calculations the road books totaled 1395Km / 866 miles but adding in the distance from my house, linking all the routes together and getting back home again I covered 2758Km / 1714 miles. Lets not talk about cost of food and fuel. I had never really explored the SW area of England before so it was good to see but i will have to go back to really appreciate all these locations. A big thank you to Xplore roadbooks and TRBP The Road Book Project for putting this together, they have raised the bar in the UK, jeep your eyes peeled for future events! ------------------------------------------------------------- 00:00 04:06 Nice climb 05:02 Fallen tree gets the better of me 05:44 F$$ked it... 06:53 Getting out of the ditch 08:37 Finally over the tree.... 09:33 Squeezing through 10:36 Step after step 12:37 I did not fit... 14:22 Foot Down 14:57 More tight climbs 18:26 Interesting lane 20:20 The roots win - I was done 20:58 Just drag it 24:44 No room for error 28:11 More step ups
