How can #AI talk to other machines? Of course through APIs, and we'll show you what it takes to make ChatGPT read the New York Times for you! Their API isn't AI-friendly, so we have to tweak it a little bit... Blobr CEO Alexandre Airvault takes us through the paces of how to access the New York Times API with ChatGPT. It's a small number of steps and may become the blueprint for a new way how we use APIs by integrating them into AI-driven experiences like a chatbot: ChatGPT has some constraints for APIs and we'll use Blobr as a way to filter the API in a simple declarative way. ChatGPT needs a "manifest" as a starting point for using an API and we'll get one of these from the portal. ChatGPT requires the OpenAPI definition to be annotated with descriptions, but we'll simply rely on what the New York Times is providing. Finally, we install the API as a ChatGPT plugin so that we can "chat with the New York Times". This uses the filtered API which is a simple shim around the actual New York Times API.
