our pfd on the lower gauley on one of the last release days of 2025. we were fortunate that mike moore agreed to show us down for our first ever descent (thanks again mike!); his direction was so good i kept a lot of it in for those who are also making their pfd. makes for a long video but hopefully helps others as much as it helped us. 0:00 Lower Gauley 0:51 Ender Waves 2:34 Walk your dog rock 2:45 Charlies Funtime (Tom’s Slot) - slot move behind big rock (Charlie’s Rock) middle right of river. looks like squarish table. Cut right between Charlie’s Rock and slide rock. I missed this one. 3:13 Hippo Rock - you can run between hippo rock and big rock to the left, i bailed on this one because it was early in the run and no one else was doing it. next time 3:56 Turtle Rock - looks like a turtle river left. there is a very narrow slot between the head and body you can run. you can see how narrow it is in the video. next time 4:43 Chainsaw - follow wavetrain downstream 5:42 Screaming Right Hand Turn 5:43 Backender description and story - Mike shows us the way with a great story. 7:44 Backender - marked by boulders on river right (AVOID), wave train. Hit reactionary wave and drive right.
