The fifth and final victim of the infamous Jack the Ripper, and by far the most badly maimed, Mary Kelly was mutilated beyond recognition on November 9, 1888 at her flat at 13 Miller's Court, Dorset Street in Spitalfields, London, England. The only ways her body was identified was by the remaining color of her hair that was not bloodsoaked as well as the shape of her ear and the color of an eye. ARTIST NOTES: Mary Kelly has been described as being of around the age of 25 and about 5 foot 7 inches tall. Her eyes were confirmed to be blue in color. From there, the details get less clear. Hair color has been guessed to have been anywhere from blonde to red to brunette. As blonde has been the most popular depiction and hair color does not change the structure of the face, Kelly is shown here as a blonde. Her build has been suggested to have been anywhere from slim to "stout". As Kelly was reported to have last been seen wearing a red shawl around her shoulders and no hat, as apparently was her custom, I constructed the portrait as a glimpse into that last moment in time. The existing photograph of Kelly's corpse, such as it was, offered little more insight into her features than the length and width of her face and the height of her forehead.
